In the working-class Crompton household, the father, Rafe , attempts to rule with an iron fist, while his wife, Daisy is a more gentle and understanding presence. Rafe’s methods of dealing with his children continually rub them the wrong way, particularly getting under the skin of his rebellious daughter, Hilda . As Rafe and Hilda lock horns, their conflict becomes a battle of wills that affects the whole family.
